Active Adult Community

Residents at Oakmont enjoy many popular cultural, social and sports activities: bridge, tennis, lawn bowling, swimming, golf, fitness, concerts and art shows with active clubs and organizations for every hobby and interest. Except for golfing, these activities occur at three large clubhouse/recreational centers strategically located within Oakmont Village’s 1,255 acres. Oakmont Village is a Premier Active Adult Community in Northern California. Living in our moderate climate, you will enjoy an active, healthful lifestyle year-round.

Three Heated Pools at Oakmont

Swimming Pools

Each of our three large recreation centers has a heated pool and spa. You can choose a pool for laps or water aerobics -- or you can "just swim." For those so inclined, the Swim Club adds a social dimension. Each pool and spa is recently upgraded.

Tennis Anyone?

Tennis Courts

‘Active’ and ‘social’ describes the 300-member Tennis Club, which hosts tournaments, but being a member is not required of residents to play at any of OVA’s eight courts.

Lawn Bowling – White Day

Lawn Bowling

The site of international competition (in 1998), our rebuilt green enhances the play and camaraderie of beginning, intermediate and advanced bowlers alike.

Other Court Games

Our Bocce Ball, Petanque and Shuffle Board courts are very popular. Horse Shoes are next to be added.

Who's Play?

Bridge

Bridge is very popular in Oakmont. Canasta, Cribbage, Dominoes, Pinochle and Poker are avidly played, also. Bingo, anyone?

Billiards

Billiards and Snooker keep us rolling at Oakmont. You should see our Ping Pong players going at it on four indoor tables.

Have an Artistic Bent?

Music and the Arts

Oakmonters flock to monthly concerts of the Classical Music Series featuring professional artists. Art shows, dancing classes, book and play reading, armchair travel and many forms of crafts, painting and photography satisfy our residents’ need for expression and appreciation.

Oakmont Concert SeriesFounded in March of 1990, the Oakmont Concert Series presents one world class concert per month throughout the year, January through December. Concerts take place on the stage of Berger Auditorium before a typical audience of 200-400 and consist of solo recitals, string quartets, and in general, all the typical fare of a chamber music series. Performers come from all over the world but more commonly from the ranks of San Francisco Bay Area orchestras, ensembles, and soloists.

Visit the new Oakmont Concert Series website.

Gardens

Like our local pioneer Luther Burbank, our creative gardeners in Oakmont make the most of Sonoma County’s benevolent climate. The Oakmont Garden Club features the vivid variety of its members’ botanical achievements at its Annual Flower Show.

Oakmont Fitness Center

Fitness Center

One of our crown jewels, the newly expanded Fitness Center offers a wide range of exercise machines, and is very popular. Strengthen and improve your body while enjoying the view and camaraderie of other frequent users.

Library

Thousands of books are available on the ‘honor system’ at Oakmont’s volunteer-run Library in newly expanded quarters. We are proud of our Library, another of our crown jewels.

Computer Learning Center

Computer Center

Computer Learning CenterKeep current with your world. Instructors and assistants from our Mac and PC clubs teach a wide variety of classes from basics to Internet/e-mail, word processing, and digital photography applications. To keep up with fast moving technology, new classes are added; software and equipment are upgraded regularly. Come, join up, and keep your brain active!

Volunteering

Volunteering is the heart and sole of life at Oakmont, an Active Adult Community. The Board of Directors of the Oakmont Village Association and all of its committees and related organizations are staffed strictly by volunteers. While Oakmonters volunteer throughout the greater Santa Rosa community, there are many opportunities within Oakmont, especially for charitable and humanitarian purposes. These include the Oakmont Volunteer Helpers (that provide rides for residents to medical offices), the Oakmont Emergency Preparedness Committee (that is organized for neighbors helping neighbors in a disaster), and support groups for particular afflictions. The Oakmont Visual Aids Workshop is unique, serves special needs all over the world, and is explained below.

Oakmont Visual Aids Workshop

Oakmont Visual Aids Workshop

Founded in 1971 by a retired teacher and ten Oakmont friends, the Oakmont Visual Aids Workshop has over 100 volunteers meeting regularly and has produced over 100,000 Tactile Aids. These are lovingly made by hand and sent worldwide, free of charge, to professionals teaching visually and mentally impaired children. Donations support this incredible effort. The Workshop may be contacted through the OVA’s e-mail, regular mail or telephone.

Visit the new Oakmont Visual Aids Workshop website.
